Rive (formerly FONHOH-USA) is invested in promoting and providing access to quality education to those living predominantly in remote rural areas of Haiti.

In Haiti, instruction happens in the colonialist language of French, rather than Creole, the language people speak in their homes and daily lives. Our work embraces a Creole-based education, yet with an emphasis on historically-rooted plurilingualism in the Haitian society. This means, we prioritize the language that students speak at home, which is the Creole language. Yet, we value the presence of the French language in our history as well as English and Spanish that are at the proximity of the country.

We are shaped by our burning desire to work with rural communities in Haiti to identify ways in which children can have access to excellent education.

RIVE believes that access to quality education is not a privilege but a basic human right. A child uneducated is a waste of human resources and a set back for society.

Created by Haitian and American scholars, Rive (DBA Fondasyon Onè pou Ayiti) is an organisation invested in promoting and providing access to quality education to children and teens living predominantly in remote rural areas of Haiti.

Formed in 2005 Rive thrives through volunteer efforts and partnerships. Rive works in collaboration with all sectors – governmental and nongovernmental organizations, businesses, and progress-minded individuals – to bring education and opportunities to rural Haiti.

Knowing that education is the key to empower individuals and communities, our team has developed a long-term strategy for encouraging and supporting equal access to quality education for Haitian children. Our long-term plan also considers environmentally conscious developmental projects.
