OUR COMMUNITY

WHO WE SERVE

WHERE WE WORK

Believing family is the foundation of a community, Rive's programs support entire families living in rural areas and some urban areas. Priority is given to the groups below; however, whole communities will benefit from Rive's programs, which intentionally give priority to development objectives and are carefully designed to be inclusive. The beneficiaries are from the lowest socioeconomic status. With a holistic and integrated approach, Rive has developed a partnership with these groups, which will result in education access for all and a systematic improvement of their livelihood. These groups include

  • Children

  • Teens

  • Parents

  • Women

Our approach to the crisis in Haiti does not fit the traditional charity paradigm so common in the country. The communities that we serve are involved in the programs from their inception through their completion. Our goal is not to offer help to these communities, but to co-develop programs in solidarity with them in a dignifying way. This approach means it is the communities themselves that identify solutions to their problems, and develop strategies and mechanisms that build their livelihood resilience. Haitians are powerful and resourceful human beings who can and shall take charge of their own destiny provided some basic conditions are met ̶ one of which is education.

Rive’s activities are concentrated in two main regions in Haiti: Centre Department and Ouest (west) department.

Central Plateau (Département du Centre)

  • Belladère

  • Lascahobas

Rive serves rural populations in Belladère and Lascahobas. These rural areas lack basic services for the communities struggling to live there. Typically these communities have been abandoned; there is no presence of government agencies or humanitarian organizations in these communities. As a result, most of the children and teens don't have any access to even the most basic education. The lack of educational or economic opportunity has led to a rural exodus which has led to overcrowded schools and poor quality education in urban areas. Investment in the local community will help keep families together, promote personal dignity and help the region thrive.

Ouest (west) department:

  • Bonrepos

As for the Ouest region, Rive works with communities in Bonrepos, a suburb located north of Port-au-Prince, the capital.

In addition to the areas mentioned above, Rive works in partnership with other organizations pursuing similar goals in other regions of the country, particularly MODENO (Mouvamn pou Devlòpman Nòdwès), a group involved in local development in the North-West Department.
